My name is Duncan and I have been a personal trainer for since 2008.
I’m passionate about helping people with their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
I want to share with you my perspective on recent events as well as giving you the best tips on how to navigate through the upcoming uncertainty.
Community
Firstly, I have been reminded these past couple of days of the importance of the people you surround yourself with. I have had people reaching out from all corners of the globe to offer assistance and lend an ear. It has been truly heart warming.
Secondly, community is how we evolved; it is literally one of the single biggest reasons you are here right now. Without it Sapiens as a species would have evolved as a mid tier mammal being picked off by the bigger and badder apex predators of our time. There would be no Netflix and chill! Imagine?
300 000 years ago we stood up and started wondering around the African planes, with no tools, we were able to catch, kill and eat animals that would have torn us to shreds 1:1. The only way we could of done this is as a collective.
We have moved away from this philosophy in recent times, preferring to live in isolation, to celebrate our independence and autonomy. That has suited us for many reasons but it is now starting to swing the pendulum the wrong way and we are suffering.
1 in 4 Australians will be touched by some form of mental illness and as I traverse my way through the new landscape that is COVID 19 I cant help but think that number is only going to increase. Isolation is regarded as one of the top reasons people engage in therapy.
In conclusion, when a person feels like they belong their likelihood of mental illness reduces.
Call to action
So my friends we need a hub, a commune for our protestations and our wonders. I am willing to do the work but I need your help. How can this humble personal trainer help you? The only limitations are that of your imagination.
